Synopsis: The story begins in the early 'sixties. Li-zhen, a pretty young woman, works as a secretary in an export office in Hong Kong. Her husband works for a Japanese company, in a job which often keeps him away from home. Across the hall, Chow, a magazine editor, lives with his wife, who is also often away. Little by little Li-zhen and Chow strike up a friendship. By chance, they discover that their respective spouses are having an affair. Drawn together due to the situation, the two fall in love, and Chow asks Li-zhen to leave home and go with him to Singapore.
